Our Causes
This year, 706 Together has chosen to support a cause that affects nearly everyone: cancer. As a leading cause of death worldwide, there is a very good chance that you or someone you love will be affected by cancer. That’s why billions of dollars have been raised for research in the fight for a cure, so although it may feel impossible to make a significant impact, there are very real ways to make a big difference right in your own communities. That is why we are honored to support an incredible organization that has been making a huge difference in the lives of patients, survivors, and their families in the Athens community and beyond for years: the Loran Smith Center for Cancer Support. This organization empowers patients and families affected by cancer throughout their journey with a full range of services and programs aimed at helping with their physical, mental, and spiritual health. All services are provided free of charge to any patient or family in our community through the Piedmont Athens Regional Foundation and the generosity of volunteers and donors.
The Loran Smith Center knows that cancer treatment is more than just medical care. Their goal is to treat the patient—not just the disease. That’s why they provide programs and services free of charge to cancer patients and their families that address their physical, mental, and spiritual needs and support them in every phase of this incredibly difficult journey. Services are provided by volunteers and funded nearly entirely through donations and fundraising.
